D*TV getting ready to unveil CBS HD to Indy market?
I have been a D*TV subscriber for many years and an HD subscriber for the past year or so and I have been generally quite pleased with my service, picture quality etc... As for local channels I am attached to the Indy market which gives me ABC, NBC, and Fox in HD - not bad. The one channel I would LOVE to get in HD is CBS - I mean SEC football, AFC Football, College Basketball just to name 3 good reasons. Apparently WISHtv is LIN station and for some reason ($$'s) unable to reach a deal with D*TV for the HD feed.
I believe that with the looming DTV switch, that actually seems like it will be a real date they have decided to cut losses and deal while it is worth something. Here is why.
Saturday I was bored poking around the channels not really settling on a station and happened to stop on the Sports Mix (ch 105 or close to that). If you are not familiar the mix channels give you 8 channels at once in small windows and you can choose a stations audio by highlighting the window. If you like it you push select and it takes you to the channel. Nice. Well Kevin James was golfing on CBS which caught my interest so I start to listen. I then decide to watch so boom - push select - and what to my wondering eyes but Kevin James in glorious (and it truly was) HD.WTF? check the info, hmm, yep info confirms HD and the station ID is WISH rather than the SD label of IN8 Okay, well check the guide, maybe it was updated and I missed it.. nope no WISH listed just IN8... next step was to restart the receiver and see if I could force a guide update to get the channel, no that didn't work but the channel remained HD so it wasn't just some dark energy fluke.. changed the channel and back lost the feed - not in guide no access
Here is what I learned: the HD CBS WISHtv feed is active and live. I was able to get a sort of backdoor on it due to the mix channel not being a slave to the guide data but rather the best feed for the broadcast displayed - thankfully if an HD and SD feed is available it will default to the HD feed.
Great, so I know that it is out there and accessible so long as a sporting event is on the mix channel but beyond that what is the holdup? I am wondering if maybe the CW feed might also be coming in HD as well.. hmmm..
Worse case scenario, I jinx it all by discovering and pointing out the hole and all hope of WISH HD fades to 480p. :(
