Live Writer post

Well, I thought I would give MS Live Writer a shot for updating my blog in an easier fashion. So far as I am using it to create this post, the only incompatibility with Live Writer and Blogger was the inablity to download and use my template... guess I will see if that makes a big difference in the wysiwyg experience.

I looks like it is very easy to include pictures, maps and links... on the other hand it wasn't terribly difficult using the blogger interface, so I am leaning on the no-need to navigate to blogger aspect for the most convenience...

It will also be nice to work on a post in my desktop environment then publish rather than the "pressure" of composition draft / publish in the online setting..

Employment

I started my new position as a support specialist at Earlham yesterday and overall it was a good first day, lots of meetings / information. I am looking forward to setting up my "cube" area today. Not supposed to call it a cubicle, its bad for morale.. arggggg. Anyway, took my car in for new tires and it looks as though I have to buy some other parts that have become worn out over the past 2 years. Just in time for the new job.

This is old news to some but it got past me and I just stumbled on to it this morning. Google Spreadsheets continuing the online Office application movement. I think I may also link Live Writer for wysiwyg blogging

Back for more later today hopefully...

Remote Parrothead

As my night draws to an end... I would like to thank our leader, Jimmy Buffett for broadcasting live on margaritaville. It was the next best thing to being there and with a quick call to me longtime parrothead friend Jules, it was almost like old times! I hope you stop by Indy next year... I will be there.

Cheers to friends near and far...

Using a generic video out cable on your iPod video

If you want to run the videos on your iPod out to a TV but don't want to buy the Apple cable, you can use a generic 3.5mm to RCA AV like the ones that often come with camcorders. The small trick is that the the standard colors / functions don't apply. Your right / left audio channels are the white / yellow cables respectively and the video is the red. Other than that things work nicely!

On another note, it is a sad evening. For the first time in 10 years Jimmy Buffett is going to take the stage in Indy and I am not there enjoying old friends and cold drinks. I will listen this year on radiomargaritaville alone in my den, my friends will be missed and hopefully we can reunite next summer. Fins up.

Lastly, credit Brad for forwarding this to me if you are familiar with "lazy Sunday" try the local flavor "Lazy Muncie". I would give the link to the original which should be at lonelyisland, but NBC felt threatened and has yanked all versions from most all sites. You might be able to go to nbc.com/snl and find it.. good luck, its a shame that you have to work that hard to find it.

sometimes

Ok here is today's little chuckle moment. I had received a letter from the Indiana teachers retirement fund asking me to change my address. They had not been updated since we moved, no problem. In the same envelope was a flyer promoting their online access with the ability to do what I needed to do. This was great, no mailing no hassles just boom done. So, I jump online and head to the site and I need to create an account as this is the first time I have used their service. Create the standard fare U/P and I also need a PIN. Well upon creating the the u/p and requesting a PIN I get a notification window letting me know that my PIN has been sent to the address on file. Well great, who knows if I will actually get it or not. Couldn't they have sent an email to the address given with a link to a ssl page providing me access to the site right away, so I could take care of business? apparently not.

On another note - have been using Opera here and there lately. It is a nice alternative as well, but even less supported by some sites / pages (Blogger)than ffx. Probably the handiest feature is the integrated BT client. Not much in the way of control but nice for ease of use.

And on yet another note - I would highly recommend reading Kevin Smith's blog. I am a fan of him and his films and to read his blog is a treat. I enjoy the logical, emotional yet as respectful as possible way he responds to the media and critics. Most of which provide extremely short-sided, unintelligent comments to his work.
